Paul Okoye, the Nigerian singer better known as Rudeboy, has alleged widespread extortion of Lagos residents at midnight by police operatives.
In a post via his Instagram stories on Friday, the musician recounted his recent encounter with the police on his way to a nightclub.
The 39-year-old said during the outing, he endured several police barricades which slowed down the flow of traffic.
Paul alleged that some of the police officers kept asking him for money at each point, adding that they indulge in begging with no shame.”
“Went to the club first time after two years plus…mehn… for God sake, why are there traffic at 2-3 am barricades everywhere in Lagos Island,” he wrote.
“Police extortion every angle with no shame mostly at club junctions and places that leads to people’s home.
“Meanwhile, you can’t find them on roads leading to the third mainland bridge. ‘Big man, chairman, big boy, anything for us? Shi shi una no go see for my hand.”
Paul has established himself as a popular name in the Nigerian music landscape with several beautiful projects.
In August, he was in the news over reports that Anita, his wife, had filed for divorce — about seven years after they tied the knot.
The spotlight had also beamed on him on several occasions over his lingering feud with Peter Okoye, his twin brother.
