The police in Osun have confirmed the killing of one Hassan Adedeji, a graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Ede.
According to NAN, Adedeji, who was said to be awaiting his mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYS) scheme, was gunned down by a suspected cultist.
The graduate’s death had sparked outrage as students of the polytechnic went on the rampage to demand the arrest of the suspected killer.
The protesting students blocked some roads in Ede with bonfires while also demanding an end to killings in the community.
Yemisi Opalola, the police spokesperson, while confirming the killing on Thursday in Osogbo, said Adedeji was shot dead alongside a commercial motorcyclist close to a gate of the institution.
Opalola said the suspected killer, identified as Rasheed Okoolu by a witness, is a notorious cultist.
She said police have launched an intensive manhunt to arrest Okoolu.
Sola Lawal, the PRO of the polytechnic, in a statement, appealed to students to be calm to allow the police to conduct their investigation.
“I can confirm to you that one Hassan Adedeji, an HND graduate of Banking and Finance and an awaiting NYSC corps member, as well as a commercial motorcyclist, were shot dead on Wednesday in Ede town,” the statement read.
“The polytechnic’s management is very saddened by this unfortunate incident.
“Let me use this opportunity to appeal to our students to remain calm and be law-abiding, while we await final police investigation into this dastardly act.”
