T.A.Y Lawson, the Ekiti branch controller of the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC), confirmed this in a letter to school heads.

Sources also confirm to TheCable that all branch controllers of the council issued similar notices on ongoing SSCE in their states.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) earlier declared an indefinite nationwide strike.

The strike to begin on June 3 is protesting the federal government’s refusal to increase the minimum wage from ₦60,000.

The WASSCE for Nigerian students commenced on April 30 and is scheduled to end on June 20, 2024.

Concerns following the declaration of the strike had it that ongoing WASSCE could be disrupted.

Lawson said all principals and school heads should take note that the conduct of WASSCE 2024 goes on as scheduled.

She said the examination body shares the burden of the unions.

The controller added that students should not bear the brunt by missing the exam which is also ongoing in some West African countries.

“In as much as we share the concerns of the unions and the generality of Nigerians, the WASSCE is going on across the member countries of WAEC and the Nigerian child should not be put to a disadvantage of missing the exam,” Lawson said.
