In an interview on the Zach Sang Show, the hitmaker said he created a new sound when he recorded ‘Holy Ghost’, his 2023 hit single.

He said he intended to use the sound to make a new album and shared the creative idea with a “certain artiste” — whose name was not mentioned and who had approached him for a collaboration.

The 27-year-old said the artiste put out an album with the same sound five months later, which led to him having to remake his entire project.

Omah Lay also described his upcoming body of work as the “greatest album of all time in Afrobeats history”.

“My song ‘Holy Ghost’ is a new sound. I was going to make the whole album with the new sound but along the line, I changed my mind,” he said.

“I shared an idea with a certain artiste and the artiste went ahead and put out an album with my idea and I had to re-record my album. He came to me and I agreed to collaborate. Of course, it’s an artiste that I love.

“And I told him where I was headed with the sound. Five months later, he put out an album with exactly the same sound that I shared with him. I had to go back and remake my album which is actually going to be the greatest album of all time in Afrobeats history.”

Omah Lay rose to fame in 2020 following the release of his two hit singles ‘You’ and ‘Bad Influence’.

He has continued to make a name for himself in the Nigerian music industry, especially with his unique music style.
