The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, have confirmed the death of Chisom Nwankwo, a final-year student, in a road accident within the campus.

Abiodun Olarewaju, the varsity’s spokesperson, told NAN that the deceased was a student of Agricultural Economics in the Faculty of Agriculture.

Olarewaju said that the student was involved in an accident on campus and “unfortunately died”.

He added that her demise is a colossal loss to the department, faculty and the entire university community.

The institution’s spokespersons also appealed to motorists and motorcyclists to be conscious of the traffic law and reduce speeding within and outside the campus.

“We cannot afford to be losing our students; we wish to warn all and sundry against speeding and wrong overtaking that can claim the lives of students or staff,” Olarewaju said.

“The management wishes to condole with the family of the deceased and pray that God would give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

Nwankwo was said to be travelling on a commercial motorcycle on the campus when the accident took place.

The student was thereafter rushed to the health centre after which she was moved to the school’s teaching hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
