The senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has cancelled its 2020/2021 session while announcing that the institution would resume academic activities for the 2019/2020 session on February 8.

In a statement by Margaret Omosule, its registrar, the varsity said the decision was arrived at during its senate meeting on Tuesday.

According to the statement, only final year students in faculty of pharmacy, clinical sciences and year-four students of the faculty of agriculture are to resume physically on campus on the stipulated date.

It said other students of the institution will receive their lectures virtually.

The varsity also said the arrangement is subject to “periodic review in line with the realities and trend of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Consequent upon the directive of the Federal Government that schools should re-open, the Senate of Obafemi Awolowo University at its meeting held today, January 19, 2021 announced the following resumption time-table for continuation of the 2019/2020 academic session that was suspended in March 2020 following the outbreak of COVID-19,” the statement read.

The varsity said it has already put in place measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic while enjoining staff and students to ensure strict compliance with them.

It added that in line with federal government’s COVID-19 protocol, students and staff must ensure regular handwashing with soap and running water, use hand sanitiser, wear face masks and observe social distancing.
