Veteran actor, Dadene Richard-Oguntimeyin, has called for life assurance policies for Nollywood actors.
Richard-Oguntimeyin told NAN that this was necessary because of the unforeseen circumstances that might occur while practising their profession or after retirement.
He appealed to theatre associations, groups and the government to establish life assurance policies for Nollywood actors.
“Both the government, associations and several theatre groups have their parts to play in bringing this demand to reality,” he said.
“All associations should provide life assurance policies for their members. Government should also support and assist in actualising such policies.
“This is necessary because most practitioners when retired do not have anything to fall back on.”
He said that there had not been any policy like that in the movie industry in the past.
“The policy will cater for the family members of actors after their death and also take care of the retirees.”
Richard-Oguntimeyin, popularly called Don Richard, prayed to God to end the frequent death of practitioners in the movie industry.
“Many had passed on to eternity in the last few months and in the last few years. We cannot question God for that.
“It is sad to hear the death of colleagues in the industry like Moji Olaiya, Olumide Bakare and others that died recently. I pray that God will forgive them their shortcomings,” he said.
