Azeez Fashola, Nigerian singer better known as Naira Marley, has become the subject of ridicule on social media following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The controversial singer was taken in for questioning on Friday morning for alleged involvement in advance fee fraud and internet related offences.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, arrested two fast-rising Nigerian musicians – Afeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley) and Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael (aka Zlatan), in connection with alleged case of internet fraud and money laundering. Intelligence report had also linked them to cybercrime offences,” Tony Orilade, EFCC spokesman.

Following his arrest, Nigerians took to Twitter to taunt the singer with hilarious comments, photos and videos.

“Naira Marley is a Goal, Yahoo is a Goal, EFCC is Goal, Court is a Goal, Possible Prison is a Goal, Freedom of speech is a Goal, but freedom after speech is not a goal. No sane person supports fraud even though the person engages in it ‘Openly’,” a Twitter user said.

“Everyone tryna form freedom of speech. Freedom after speech is not assured. EFCC go carry u. Be careful on this social media streets. You mustn’t have an opinion on every topic! Do what u do in silence. Don’t defend anything. Just shut the f**k up,” another user said.
