Eric Holder, the 33-year-old man who killed Nipsey Hussle, the US rapper, in 2019 will be sentenced on Thursday.
The acclaimed Los Angeles rapper was fatally shot outside his clothing store on March 31, 2019.
Holder faces a potential term of life in prison after he was convicted of first-degree murder in July 2022.
This was after he was indicted for using a handgun that caused “great bodily injury and death” of Hussle in 2019.
According to AP, Holder is likely to get life in prison when he arrives at a Los Angeles courtroom on February 23 for his sentencing.
“We hope that there is some resounding peace in the fact that his killer will be in prison likely for the rest of his life,” said John McKinney, the lead prosecutor.
Aaron Jansen, Holder’s counsel, had earlier asked for his client’s conviction to be changed to voluntary manslaughter due to an “inconsistent” verdict.
It is also believed that Holder was not eligible for the death penalty.
The sentencing, initially fixed for September 2022, was postponed at the request of the defense.
Thursday brings an end to a legal saga that lasted more than three
The late rapper and Holder were close friends who grew up in the same neighborhood and both had been affiliated with the local Rollin’ 60s gang.
