Some Nigerians have taken to social media platforms to protest the alleged killing of Tina, a 16-year-old girl, at Iyana Oworo area of  Lagos, by an officer of the police force.

Tina was said to have been hit by a stray bullet on Tuesday when a police officer started shooting, in a bid to apprehend a bus driver and his conductor who violated the curfew put in place by the state government to curb the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The bus conductor was also reported to have been gunned down during the shooting.

It was gathered that Tina died in a hospital in the early hours of Friday.

Bala Elkana, Lagos police spokesman, took to his Twitter page to disclose that the “killer cop” has been arrested and would be subjected to internal disciplinary proceedings.

“The killer cop is identified, arrested and detained at the Headquarters. He will face the full weight of the law. Justice will surely prevail. Members of the Public will be updated on the outcome of the investigation,” he wrote.

Tina’s death has sparked a plethora of backlashes on social media platforms especially Twitter, where users have taken to protest.

Using the hashtag #JusticeForTina, quite a number of users have demanded justice for the teenager while also calling for an end to the incessant killings of Nigerians by the police.
