A Nigerian man, identified as Babajide Isreal Adebanjo, has set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest duration of twerking.

Adebanjo achieved the feat in Lagos on January 14, after twerking for 3 hours and 30 minutes.

According to GWR, Adebanjo’s attempt was not only a personal challenge but also aimed at raising awareness about depression.

The prestigious British reference book added that the Nigerian’s message is that anyone can achieve a world record, no matter how unconventional it may seem.

“This record attempt was personal to Babajide as it was a way for him to get out of his comfort zone and to raise awareness for anyone suffering from depression all around the world,” GWR said.

“His message is that no record is too crazy, too big, too great or too little to achieve. There is always space for everyone and their unique attributes.”

Adebanjo’s feat comes at about the same time when Fola David, the Nigerian doctor, set a new world record for the largest drawing by an individual.

David, also a visual artist from Lagos, began the attempt on July 16. Last Friday, he surpassed the previous record of 629.98 m² (6781.04 ft²) held by Ravi Soni from India. Soni achieved the record in Rajasthan on November 30, 2021.

In April, Tunde Onakoya, the Nigerian chess champion, broke the record for the longest chess marathon, playing for over 56 hours to raise $1,000,000 for underprivileged children across Africa.

Helen Williams also set a new record for the widest handmade wig.
