‘Namaste Wahala,’ first-ever movie collaboration between Bollywood and Nollywood, is set to premiere on Netflix as an original on February 14.
Hamisha Ahuja, an Indian businesswoman-cum-filmmaker, who is the movie’s director, broke the news in a post on her Instagram page.
“Namaste Wahala, a delightful cross-cultural love story, is set for a Valentine’s Day global release on streaming service Netflix. Produced and directed by @hamishadaryaniahuja, the romcom – a Netflix Original – was shot entirely in Lagos, Nigeria,” she wrote.
It is believed that the movie’s new release date may not be unconnected to its thematic underpinning of love.
February 14 — which is Valentine’s Day — is commemorated annually as a moment for celebrating love.
Last year, Ahuja had said that the project “is close to my heart as it’s my first movie. It’s also the first-ever that brings Nollywood and Bollywood together.”
The forthcoming romantic thriller is billed to feature several movie stars including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Joke Silva, and Jude Abaga, a rapper better known as MI.
Others are Samuel Perry, a comic-actor better known as Broda Shaggi; Sujata Segal, an Indian actress; Adaora Mbelu, Anee Icha, K10, Ibrahim Suleiman, Imoh Eboh, Osas Ighodaro, and Frodd, a former Big Brother Naija housemate.
The new release date comes against the backdrop of initial delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The romantic comedy, earlier been scheduled for theatrical release on April 24, 2020, was delayed by six months amid concerns over spread of the novel disease.
Ahuja had at the time revealed that the movie would be released in October but the plan again failed to materialise.
