Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has committed suicide.
The vocalist was said to have taken his own life at his private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles County, US.
According to the LA County coroner, Bennington’s body was found at about 9am Thursday morning.
The rock star is survived by six children from two wives.
Bennington reportedly battled drugs and alcohol addiction for several years.
The singer had in the past revealed that he once considered committing suicide because he was sexually abused as a child.
His death comes on what would have been the 53rd birthday of his friend, Chris Cornell, who committed suicide by hanging in May.
Bennington’s Linkin Park bandmate Mike Shinoda has tweeted a confirmation of his death.
He wrote: “Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one”.
