Layi Wasabi, the Nigerian skit maker, has revealed why he avoids promoting nudity in his content.
In a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, Wasabi said his comedic style does not rely on nudity because he believes comedy should come from good storytelling.
He said he does not judge his colleagues who incorporate nudity into their work, adding that he focuses on what appeals to him.
“Di kain skit wey I dey do no need naked women but I no go judge anybody. But me wetin appeal to me na hin I dey do,” he said in Pidgin English.
“Comedy na wetin you fit do effortlessly, and if you tell your story well well, you fit make people laugh you no need to dey involve women wey dey naked.”
Born Isaac Ayomide Olayiwola, Layi started his comedy career as a teenager.
Wasabi is known for blending the societal issues and everyday challenges faced by Nigerians into content.
In August 2023, he revealed that growing up in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state, influenced the kind of content he creates.
“Osogbo is a quiet city that allows your thought to wander and that was basically what made me who I am. The people I imitate in the skits are people I have seen in Osogbo,” the skit maker said.
He has also received several recognitions for his talent.
