The Lagos government has arraigned Funke Akindele, Nollywood actress, for violating the lockdown order imposed amid the COVID-19 outbreak in the state.
The Nollywood star is to be charged before an Ogba magistrate court by a prosecuting team to be from the directorate of public prosecution (DPP).
Akindele was arrested on Sunday by the Lagos police authorities after she staged a house party, flouting the social distance measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Bala Elkana, the state’s police spokesperson, had stated that efforts were ongoing to effect the arrest of others who were also seen at the party including Naira Marley and Akindele’s husband.
“Investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons, among whom are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz,” the PRO had said.
“They are in their best interests urged to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday 6th April, 2020 or risk being declared wanted.”
The said house party, which happened on Saturday, was to celebrate the birthday of Akindele’s husband at her residence in Amen Estate Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos.
President Muhammadu Buhari had imposed a two weeks lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, in order to halt the spread of the virus.
Nigeria has confirmed 232 cases of coronavirus so far, with five deaths and 33 people discharged.
