Ajeigbe Yaqub, a lecturer at the Kwara State University (KWASU) in Ilorin, has passed away.
Kikelomo Sallee, the institution’s registrar, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, said the lecturer died in his sleep.
Until his death, Yaqub was the institution’s head of department of human kinetics and health education as well as the acting director of sports.
It is understood that the Islamic funeral prayer for the lecturer commenced in Budo-Egba, Asa LGA of the state, a few hours after his death.
In the statement, the institution described the scholar as a “committed member of staff”.
“With a heavy heart, we announce the death of the Head of the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education and Ag. Director of Sports of the Kwara State University, Dr. Ajeigbe Issa Yaqub,” the statement reads.
“Dr. Ajeigbe died in his sleep. Janaza is at 10:00 am today April 24, 2023, in Budo-Egba, in the Asa LGA of Kwara State.
”As the university mourns this loss of a committed member of staff, we pray Allah forgives all his shortcomings and admits him into jannatul firdaus.
“May Allah also console his family, friends and the university community.”
