Kunle Afolayan, Nigerian filmmaker, says he has received a shot of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, the movie director cum producer disclosed that he took the vaccine on Wednesday.
Afolayan said he took the vaccine despite claims making the rounds about the alleged side effects of the drugs among those who have been vaccinated against the novel disease.
He also shared a picture of a certificate given to him after the exercise to certify that he has been vaccinated while stating that he is not “scared of death”.
“Don’t take it! Take it! It will allow them to monitor your movements! It will kill your organs! I have taken it! Got the covid vaccine yesterday. Iku to ba fe pami ko ma bo (the death that wants to kill me should come). Do have a blessed day,” he wrote.
Nigeria received its first batch of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on March 2.
But there have been reports on the development of blood clots in some recipients of the vaccine, causing several European countries to discontinue its use.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) had earlier dismissed claims of severe side effects relating to the administration of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in the country.
“No Nigerian so far has developed any known severe side effects following vaccination with AstraZeneca vaccine,” it said.
Afolayan has established himself as a household name in the country’s movie landscape with strings of awards and recognition.
The 45-year-old had recently revealed his dislike for polygamy due to the experience of his late father who had 10 wives.
