Katty Perry, an American singer-songwriter, and Orlando bloom, her celebrity fiance, have welcomed their first child together, christening the baby girl Daisy Dove Bloom.
The couple broke the news on Thursday in a statement via the website of UNICEF, an organisation they’re goodwill ambassadors for, while also setting up a donation page for humanitarian purposes.
“We’re floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter. We know we’re lucky, not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was,” the statement read.
“Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes.
“Since COVID-19, many more newborn lives are at risk because of a greater lack of access to water, soap, vaccines, and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.
“In celebration of the heart, we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s arrival. By supporting UNICEF, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your love can bloom with generosity.”
Perry and her man had earlier postponed their wedding, citing fears relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’m not joking when I say that coronavirus might have a play in whether we put things on ice, because we’re going to be traveling and we don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable,” he had said.
