Kanye West, the US rapper now known as Ye, says ‘Essence‘, Wizkid’s hit single with Tems, is the “best song in history”.
‘Essence’ is the 11th track of ‘Made In Lagos’ (MIL), Wizkid’s fourth album, which was released in October 2020.
The track has enjoyed widespread acceptance across the globe, with prominent entertainers dancing to its rhythms.
It further gained international prominence after Wizkid released a remix featuring Justin Bieber, the Canadian pop star.
In July last year, the project became the first Nigerian song to crack the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the third from Africa.
It would later record another leap, climbing by 23 spots on the Hot 100 to hit 59th place.
The hit song has also snagged numerous awards. In February, the project won the outstanding music video category at the 2022 edition of the NAACP Image Awards.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, West lauded the success of the song and rated it as the best track in history.
“Best song in the history of music to date,” he wrote.

The rapper joins the list of popular entertainers who have publicly commended the song.
Wale, the Nigerian-American rapper, had argued that the project should have won “multiple awards” at the Grammy Awards.
Nicki Minaj, the Trinidadian-born rapper, also claimed the song deserves to be the song of the year at this year’s Grammys.
