The board of Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) in Kano state has approved the appointment of Abdulrasheed Garba as the institution’s pioneer vice-chancellor.
The varsity announced this in a statement signed by Yusuf Datti, its administrative secretary, on Sunday.
Garba was a former registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO). He also served as deputy vice-chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
Datti said the board remains confident in Garba’s ability to lead the university to greatness.
“With an impressive career spanning over 33 years, Professor Abdulrashid Garba brings a wealth of teaching, research, and community service experiences to his new leadership role,” the statement reads.
“The appointment of Professor Abdulrashid Garba as Vice-Chancellor was duly approved by the esteemed Board of Trustees of the University, under the esteemed chairmanship of Emeritus Professor Muhammad Sani Zahradeen.
“Having previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, and as Chief Executive Officer of the National Examination Council (NECO), Professor Abdulrashid Garba’s professional journey underscores his unwavering commitment to educational development.
“Furthermore, his role as a special adviser to the Minister of Education has showcased his dedication to advancing the academic landscape.
“The University is confident in Professor Abdulrashid Garba’s ability to steer KHAIRUN towards a future of excellence and distinction. His proven track record in academia and administration makes him a valuable asset to the institution as it strives to achieve greater heights.”
The newly-established institution was named after the late father of Abdulsamad Rabiu, the founder and chairman of BUA Group.
