Murja Kunya, the popular TikToker recently arrested by the Kano Hisbah board over alleged immoral acts, has been remanded in prison.
On Tuesday, Aliyu Usman, chairman and officer in charge of operation ‘Kai da badala’ surveillance, said the content creator was arrested on Monday in the Tinshama area of the state.
Usman said Kunya is accused of “immoral acts” and will be arraigned before a Shari’ah court.
“She was arrested yesterday (Monday) late evening at her residence located at Tinshama area. We spent about three hours waiting for her before she finally showed up and we picked her up,” he said.
“She is being charged with immoral acts which she is widely known for. There is someone who every day comes around to pick her around 10 pm and will return her by 12 midnight or 1 am.”
On Wednesday, however, a top Hisbah source confirmed to TheCable Lifestyle that Kunya had been arraigned before the Kano Shari’ah court.
The insider also disclosed that the TikTok user has been remanded in prison and will be re-arraigned on February 20.
“It is confirmed that she has been arrested and arraigned on Wednesday. She has been remanded in prison now. Maybe on the 20 this month she will be back in court. She denied the seven charges against her yesterday,” the source said.
In a now-viral video, Khadija Sagir Sulaiman, one of the officers of Hisbah, wondered why Kunya was released after she had been arraigned last year over the same offence.
Last year, Kunya was remanded in prison for allegedly committing offenses contrary to Islamic teachings.
