Joycelyn Savage, a 21-year-old aspiring singer, has denied being brainwashed by R&B legend R. Kelly.
A Buzzfeed article published on Monday had alleged that the singer was keeping young women against their will.
R. Kelly was accused of running an abusive sex cult and brainwashing the girls whom he allegedly controls at whim.
Savage’s parents were among those who supplied information to Buzzfeed.
But in a video obtained by TMZ, Savage said she is not being held hostage by R. Kelly.
She said: “I’m not being brainwashed or anything like that, I just want everybody to know – my parents and everybody in the world – that I’m totally fine. I’m happy where I’m at and everything is OK with me.”
While stating that she hadn’t spoken to her parents in almost six months, she accused them of “causing problems in my life. I’m very heartbroken about what is going on”.
According to the report, R. Kelly physically and mentally abuses the young women who reside in his houses in Atlanta and Chicago.
The ladies are reportedly mandated to call him ‘Daddy’ while he calls them ‘Babies’.
Reacting to the allegations, the singer’s lawyer Linda Mensch, said her client has been wrongly accused and noted that he will go after his accusers.
“Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed at the recent revelations attributed to him. Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such allegations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name,” the statement read.
In another video, also released to TMZ, Savage urged her father to stop “embarrassing” her, stressing yet again that she is fine and not being held against her will.
