John Legend, American R&B artiste, has criticised rapper Kanye West for supporting and identifying with Donald Trump, US president-elect.
West had on Tuesday visited Trump, his old friend, for a meeting at the famous Trump Towers, in New York.
The rapper later took to Twitter to state that he met Trump to discuss change and multicultural issues.
But Legend, a longtime collaborator of West, says he’s really disappointed with the rapper and noted that the meeting with Trump was a publicity stunt of sorts.
In an interview with French media platform, Clique, Legend said Trump’s words and actions have been negative and “corrosive” to the United States of America.
“I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to [Donald Trump] about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt. I think Kanye was a publicity stunt,” he said.
“I’m pretty disappointed with Kanye that he says he would have voted for Trump. I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country.
“I think the things he’s promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people, and for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing,” he said.
Legend is one of the artistes under Getting Out Our Dreams (G.O.O.D), Kanye West’s record label.
