A lady who accused Jay Z and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs of raping her at 13 has dropped her lawsuit against the rappers.
In December 2024, a lady identified as Jane Doe accused the rapper of raping her at an afterparty following the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2000.
She alleged she was offered a drink that made her feel “woozy, lightheaded, and feel she needed to lie down”.
Court records on Friday show Doe has now withdrawn the case.
The filings state that the plaintiff dismissed the “action voluntarily, with prejudice.”
Dismissal with prejudice means the lawsuit can not be refilled again.
Reacting via a statement, Jay Z described the lawsuit withdrawal as a “victory”.
He called the allegations against him “frivolous, fictitious, and appalling.”
Jay Z said the accusations caused immense trauma to him and his family, adding that such baseless claims should not be taken lightly.
The rapper criticised the legal system for failing to protect “the innocent from being accused with false evidence”.
“Today is a victory. The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere,” the statement reads.
“The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims. I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, my loved ones, and I have endured can never be dismissed.
“This 1-800 lawyer gets to file a suit hiding behind Jane Doe, and when they quickly realize that the money grab is going to fail, they get to walk away with no repercussions. The system has failed.
“The court must protect victims, of course, while with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence.
“May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally.”
Diddy’s legal team also reiterated his claims of innocence.
“For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by an attorney more focused on media headlines than legal merit,” they said.
“Just like this claim, the others will fall apart because there is no truth to them. This is just the first of many that will not hold up in a court of law.”
Diddy was arrested on September 16 over sex trafficking and racketeering charges and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His trial is set to begin on May 5, 2025.
He also has several sexual assault lawsuits.
The rapper faces life in prison if convicted on the racketeering charge.
He faces another statutory minimum of 15 years for the sex trafficking charge.
