Iyabo Ojo, the Nigerian actress, says she had to take permission from her kids before joining the cast of ‘The Real Housewives of Lagos’.
The movie star spoke about her participation in the reality show at the 9th Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NEC) on Friday.
Ojo said she initially didn’t have an idea what the show was about until she was approached by Livespot, the production company.
“I didn’t understand what was going on here. But then sister D (Deola Alade) explained to me and I got the memo,” she said.
“And I said okay, let me have this discussion with my kids. My kids told me they are adults and that there is no need for me to protect them. They said ‘just do you and be happy and let people see the other side of you.’
“And moreover it’s going to add to your brand. It’s a win-win thing.”
TheCable Lifestyle had earlier reported how Ojo’s inclusion on the reality show’s cast elicited widespread criticisms on social media.
The mother of two had come under scrutiny for her relationship status, with many Nigerians wondering if she’s qualified to feature on the show.
Ojo got married to a movie marketer in 1999, at the age of 21, but the marriage crashed in 2001.
She gave birth to Felix, her son, and Priscilla, her daughter, in 1999 and 2001 respectively.
