Burna Boy, the Afro-fusion singer, says he has “never received gifts” from Nyesom Wike, the minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).
In a post via X on Thursday, the Grammy-winning artiste also claimed that no politician has ever given him gifts.
Earlier today, some Nigerians commenced a 10-day protest against economic hardship and soaring inflation in various parts of the country.
The protests have been dubbed ’10 Days of Rage’ with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance.
Some followers of the music star appeared to have called him out on X to lend his voice to the protest.
In his reaction, Burna Boy warned his fans not to drag him into the ongoing nationwide demonstration.
The ‘Last Last’ hitmaker also dismissed claims of affiliations with politicians.
He argued that he has never received any gift from Wike or any other politician in the country.
“No politician has ever given me anything,” he wrote.
“Go ask Wike where the land him give me or which money him give me. You think I am your faves.”
In 2021, Burna Boy and his team had visited the government house in Port Harcourt when Wike was the governor of Rivers state.
Following his Grammy win, the singer was also bestowed with Distinguished Service Star of River State (DSSRS) — the second-highest honour in the oil-producing state.
Wike gave N10 million each to the artistes that performed at Burna Boy’s homecoming concert.
