Tiwa Savage, Nigerian singer, has alleged attempts to extort her by some people who are in possession of a video of her intimate moment with her new lover.

The music star brought the revelation to light in a recent interview with Angie Martinez, the American radio personality.

Tiwa Savage said she got to know of the incident on Wednesday when one of her managers sent her the video while she was returning from an outing.

The ‘Celia’ crooner revealed that she felt embarrassed by the nude content, adding that such could affect her recent career strides.

She, however, vowed that she would not succumb to threats of blackmail for doing “something natural.”

The musician said her “blackmailers” initially threatened to release the tape on Thursday night if she fails to pay an undisclosed sum of money.

“So, something happened and this was just yesterday (Wednesday). I was leaving a radio station and I was in my car when one of my managers sent me a message that I should check my phone which I did,” she said.

“When I checked, it was a video. I asked him where he got it from and he replied that he got it like 20 minutes ago. I’m not going to call it a sex tape but it’s a tape of I and the person I am dating right now and it’s gone out. It’s a recent video like two or three weeks ago.

“I said to myself I won’t pay because two months down the line, the person would come for more and who knows even if I send the money, he would still release it anywhere. I’m not going to allow anyone to blackmail me for doing something that is natural.”

The singer said the thought of having her nude tape online has since left her unsettled, adding that it is not something she would want her mum and son to watch.

Tiwa Savage also said she decided to open up so as to control the narrative when the clip is eventually released and to prepare her fans as well as her team ahead mentally.

“The person I’m dating is a regular guy. He’s more concerned about me because he knows I’m going to get it worse. My dad just passed away so he won’t see it but my mum and son,” she added.

“I’m sharing this because I want to control the narrative. The person is not going to make any money from releasing it because it’s an intimate moment with someone that I’m dating.

“They have asked me to pay up, but I’m not going to do that, that where the issue is. So, he is going to put it out regardless…for me it’s like why now? When the music is so good and I don’t want this to overshadow what I have going on at the moment.

“I have worked so hard with my team. But now, they have to regroup and I feel a little bit embarrassed. Nobody wants that obviously. I keep looking at the video and I’m like this is so embarrassing.

“I don’t really want my fans and family to see that side of me. I can’t believe it’s actually happening to me. I feel for my fans because they have to be defending me. I cried but I don’t want to be extorted.”

On how the video leaked online, she said: “What happened was that the person unsnapped and posted it by accident and deleted it but someone already got it before it was removed online.

“It’s very shot but it’s going to be out there forever. I couldn’t sleep last night because I kept thinking it’s going to come out, we tried to stop it but I resolved I’m just going to own up to it because I’m not ashamed of it, this is someone that I’m dating, I’m not cheating and he’s also not cheating, we’re grown ups.”
