Omah Lay, Vector, and Charly Boy are among the Nigerian celebrities who have reacted to the ongoing nationwide protest.
On Thursday, some Nigerians commenced a protest against economic hardship and soaring inflation in various parts of the country.
The protests have been dubbed ‘10 Days of Rage’ with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance.
Unfortunately, there have been reports of violence, looting, and clashes between security operatives and protesters in some states during the demonstrations.
In Abuja, security forces used tear gas to disperse crowds, while reports of looting and fatalities have emerged on social media.
The Borno government imposed a 24-hour curfew following a bomb explosion that claimed several lives.
Abba Yusuf, Kano’s governor, also declared a curfew after violence erupted during the protests.
The development sparked a wave of reactions on social media with several Nigerians including celebrities.
While some celebrities supported the demonstration, others distanced themselves from it. A segment of high-profile figures in showbiz also condemned Nigerians involved in the looting and vandalization of properties.
Actor Yul Edochie urged people not to protest but to be patient with President Bola Tinubu while singer Portable argued there is no reason to protest because “Nigeria is okay”.
However, activist DJ Switch called on Nigerians to unite and protest “if we want actual change” while actor Hanks Anuku expressed support for the nationwide protest.
Actress Nkechi Blessing pleaded with the president to share his plans to reduce the cost of living in Nigeria while ace actor Jide Kosoko argued that Tinubu “is doing well”.
Dancer Jane Mena led the protest in parts of Delta state. Spyro, on the other hand, called for a blackout in the country’s entertainment industry.
