Ajibola Adebayo, the Nigerian comedian better known as Holy Mallam, has revealed why he relocated to the United States with his family.
In a recent chat with Teju Babyface, Mallam recalled how his wife battled with a life threatening illness — which he did not mentioned.
The comedian said he relocated with his family after he was advised to take his ailing wife to the US for adequate medical care.
He said his wife would have “died for free if we had not left Nigeria”.
The father-of-three said his wife received treatment for over a year, adding that the period was a “true test of my character”.
He also recalled his experience with a pastor who claimed that his wife was being punished for her sins.
“My wife was ill, it was a life threatening ailment. If we hadn’t left Nigeria she would have died for free,” he said.
“Her friend had stage 2, she had stage 3. Her friend who had stage 2 in Nigeria died last year. My wife was treated for nine months. I will get back home to see if she is still breathing.
“Bringing her here made a lot of sense. At the end of the day, the hospital bill was about 250,000 dollars and by God’s grace we have cleared it. She was treated for close to a year but she survived.
”I think that was when my true character was tested. There are things that happen in life that you can never prepare for. When mine came I had to embrace the reality and I thank God for the day that I was told to bring her here.
“It was part of why we left our people and went to hide in the midst of white people. They were genuine.
“When my wife was sick, some of her church members and pastor said my wife spoke at a meeting and that was why God is punishing her.”
