Google has celebrated Amaka Igwe, award-winning Nigerian writer, director, entrepreneur, and producer, with a doodle on her 57th posthumous birthday.
The Google doodle is a special alteration of the logo on Google’s homepage to commemorate special holidays, events, achievements, and people.
Prior to her death, Amaka remained a prominent figure in the country’s movie industry. She was also recognized as one of the pioneers of modern Nigerian TV drama and film.
“Happy birthday to Nigerian writer, director, entrepreneur, & producer Amaka Igwe on her 57th birthday” the tech giant wrote on Twitter.

The film producer hit national limelight as the writer and producer of award-winning TV soap like ‘Checkmate’ and its phenomenally successful offshoot ‘Fuji House of Commotion’.
Her debut projects in the country’s movie industry include ‘Rattle snake’ and ‘Violated’, which set Amaka Igwe Studios apart in the video film era of Nollywood.
In 2011, she was announced as a member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR), an award that honors Nigerians who made significant contributions to the nation.
She died on April 28, 2014 in Enugu — after efforts to save her from an asthma exacerbation proved abortive.
