Joyce Meyer, a Christian evangelist, says she’s “on the verge” of getting a tattoo on her shoulder.
The Christian author and speaker said she is considering making the move just to “push all the religious people off the cliff”.
Speaking during a recent conference, the president of Joyce Meyer Ministries said “it is not boring to serve Christ” while urging her audience not to be restrained by religion.
“Holiness is not legalism. Whatever people used to think holiness was, it just became a mess and a nightmare and really turning a lot of people off,” Meyer said.
“Holiness became not smoking, not cursing, not wearing pretty clothes, not partying, no jewelry, not having a nice hairstyle — and God forbid you have a tattoo or you are a man with an earring in your ear.
“That will just put the religious people on the edge.
“The Bible says in Isaiah 49 that God has a picture of you tattooed on the palm of His hand.
“I’m right on the verge of going and getting a tattoo. I thought I might as well just push all the religious people right off the cliff and just get it over with.
“I belong to the Lord. Why would I do that (get a tattoo)? Just to make religious demons mad, no other reason cos I live in so much bondage from legalism.”

I have read a lot of Joyce Meyer’s books and I get inspired, my faith stronger and the horizon of my spiritual knowledge broaden . However, her opinion in the issue of tattoo, leaves me with fear. You don’t bring logic in the interpretation of bible for any reason because no one has the power to interpret the Holy Writ without the assistance of the Holy Spirit in whose same spirit it was written. Why we know those things that are right and wrong and can vehemently approve of or condemn them, there are things we do without known reasons why we do them and cannot be said generally to be right or wrong save individual choices and orientation. One of those things is tattoo. I refer her to her book “how to hear from God” she will find out that she made her comment without first prayed, Listened and Obeyed. And it is wrong of her to just say something like this without first asking the Holy spirit. Many people will follow what she says, and I know for sure she did not consult Holy spirit. There are things that are better not said and there are times silence is better than speech.
