Kellie, wife of Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer who is charged with murder in the death of George Floyd, is now filing for divorce, after 10 years of marriage.

Derek, who was earlier filmed kneeling on Floyd’s neck before his death, was arrested Friday and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

On Friday, Kellie, in a statement through her attorney, expressed condolences to Floyd’s family.

In the statement by Sekula Law Offices, Derek’s wife, who happens to be a former Mrs. Minnesota winner, also said she’s filed for dissolution of her marriage, according to CBS Minnesota.

“I spoke with Kellie Chauvin and her family. She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death and her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and everyone who is grieving this tragedy,” the statement read.

“She has filed for the dissolution of her marriage to Derek Chauvin. Ms. Chauvin has no children from her current marriage.

“She respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents, and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time.”

Floyd’s death had sparked public fury across cities in the US, with thousands of citizens taking to the streets and social media to protest his killing and general police brutality against black men.
