‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’, a new film by Funke Akindele, the Nigerian filmmaker, is set to premiere in December.

The new show is coined from ‘Jenifa’s Diary’, a television comedy series created by Akindele in 2015.

The filmmaker announced the production of the new movie in a recent post via her Instagram page.

“It has been long you saw Jenifa,” she wrote.

‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ is part of the Jenifa franchise which tells the tale of a naive and funny character of the same name.

The franchise began in 2008 with the first installment and a sequel titled ‘Return of Jenifa’ in 2011.

The franchise also spawned spin-offs like ‘Aiyetoro Town’ (2019, 18 episodes) set in Jenifa’s village, and ‘Jenifa on Lockdown’ (2021).

Akindele rose to prominence in 2008 for her movie ‘Jenifa’, which gained commercial success.

In 2009, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ for her role in ‘Jenifa’.

Akindele was later named the ‘Best Actress in a Comedy’ at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2016 and 2017.

The movie star also won the same award in 2020 and 2022, making it her fifth win in the category.

She has been involved in many other productions including ‘Industreet’, ‘She Must Be Obeyed’, and ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, among others.

The 46-year-old film star had previously revealed that she was bullied and denied movie roles due to her physical appearance.

With a slew of awards and accolades, Akindele has established herself as one of the prominent names in Nollywood.
