‘1917’, an epic war film, and ‘Joker’, a 2019 American psychological thriller movie, notably snagged the plaques for their categories at the 2020 Golden Globes.
The annual award event, which honours the best in television and film, held on Sunday in Beverly Hills, California.
Netflix earned a total of 34 nominations in both film and television but none of its biggest titles, including ‘The Irishman’ or ‘Two Popes’, won any awards.
However, the streaming service walked away with one plaque for TV show as Olivia Colman won the best actress category for ‘The Crown’, a drama series on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
‘Game of Thrones‘ had a nomination with Kit Harington in the ‘Best Actor in a Drama TV Series’ category but lost out.
Other entries that snagged a win are Amazon’s ‘Fleabag’, HBO’s ‘Succession’, and ‘Chernobyl’ — winning two awards each on the TV side.
Ricky Gervais, an English stand-up comedian, hosted the award for the fifth time while Roman Griffin Davis, a 12-year-old star in ‘Jojo Rabbit’, was the youngest to be considered for the award.
