The federal government has increased the fees for newly admitted students of federal unity schools to N100,000.
Binta Abdulkadir, the director of senior secondary education in the federal ministry of education, announced this in a circular dated May 25.
The circular, titled ‘approved fees/ charges for federal unity colleges (1st term) for new students’, was addressed to all principals of federal unity colleges across the country.
“Please be informed that the ministry has approved only the underlisted fees and charges for all unity colleges,” the circular reads.
It is understood that new students of federal unity schools used to pay N45,000 in the past.
A breakdown of items that make up the adjusted fees include uniform, text books deposit, exercise books, prospectus, caution fee, ID card, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra lesson, and insurance.
Others are security, utilities, website/e-result/ICT, and medical.
The development comes amid the concerns trailing the removal of petrol subsidy and cost of living in the country.
TheCable had reported that the product’s pump price surged to N617 per litre in the federal capital territory (FCT) and N568 a litre in Lagos.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) earlier joined other Nigerians to lament the hardship in the country.
