The holiday season is a few weeks away but we can see its evidence everywhere we turn to. It’s quite easy to lose track of certain aspects of our lives in the rush of the season’s festivities.


One of such aspects is our health. This is because, there are generally more “special” to eat on every occasion.

Hosts want us to partake in their joy this season, family members want us to indulge their special recipes and the prices of certain food items drop.

With these factors in play, it’s no puzzle why some of us might be prone to losing track of our diet.


While it’s harmless to indulge in some holiday spoil, it’s also advisable to watch out and stay healthy. These are some tips to try:

  • Substitute sweets for fruits

For every time you crave sweets or foods generally contain a high level of carbs, substitute these by taking a fruit instead.

Always keep berries, nuts and other kinds of fruits around for easy access. Fruits contain a large number of nutrients which replenish energy, keep you hydrated but more importantly, provides your body with more than enough tools to fight off disease-causing bacteria, or virus.

  • Try unconventional exercising

Let’s face it: the holiday spirit might get to you. Going about your routine workout might not work out (pun intended, lol) as expected.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get some action going. Try out some unconventional exercising methods such as taking light stretches and even aerobics.

Walking is also a good way of remaining fit.

  • Don’t forget to stay hydrated

Because the need to stay hydrated cannot be over-emphasized. Remember that drinking lots of water helps actively in the digestion process.


Staying hydrated will also help you be active and more, make your skin glow; a perfect combination for the holiday.

  • Hold yourself accountable for your diet

Know your limits when it comes to diet and stick to them. You may inform your host, family or friends, about the type of diet you’re on so that this way, you’re accountable to yourself and must therefore, stick to your meal plan alone.

  • Remain happy

Happiness is an undervalued ingredient for wellness. This season, remain happy and joyful by practising gratitude for everything in your life. Including your family, friends, achievements, milestones, career, health and more.

By doing this, you’ll be fully equipped to take on the holiday in the right mood.
