Fireboy, Wizkid, and Tiwa Savage are among the Nigerian artistes nominated for the 2022 NAACP Image Awards.
According to NAN, the nominations for the 2022 NAACP edition were announced on Tuesday in a virtual event.
The virtual event was hosted by actress Kyla Pratt, Marcus Scribner, and Tinashe.
Netflix, the US streamer, leads nominations across motion picture and television plus streaming categories.
‘Insecure’, the comedy-drama series, received the most nominations in the television plus streaming categories.
Wizkid and Tiwa Savage were put in the ‘Outstanding International Song’ category alongside Omah Lay and Fireboy.
Wizkid was nominated for ‘Essence’, his song featuring Tems and Justin Bieber.
Fireboy DML got the nomination for his hit song ‘Peru’.
Tiwa Savage’s ‘Somebody’s Son’, featuring Brandy, US singer, gained her nomination.
Kidi, Ghanaian artiste, and Omah Lay received nominations for their song ‘Touch it’ and ‘Understand’ respectively.
The 53rd NAACP Image Awards celebrate outstanding achievements and performances of people of colour across more than 80 competitive categories in film, television; plus streaming, music, literature, and podcasts.
The winners will be announced during the two-hour live television special, which will be hosted by Anthony Anderson, the seven-time NAACP Image Awards winner.
The award show, it is understood, will be airing on February 26, 2022, at 8:00 pm ET/PT on BET.
