Fireboy DML, the Nigerian singer, says Afrobeats needs homegrown structures to sustain its global success.
In a recent interview with Cool FM, the singer lamented the lack of infrastructure in the country.
He also questioned when international fans would be able to experience live performances in Nigeria.
He added the establishment of an arena in a city like Lagos would facilitate a better global connection.
“Everyone is saying ‘Afrobeats to the world.’ The music is perfect. But there is no structure,” Fireboy said
“The [foreign] fans are listening [to our music] but when are they going to come to Lagos and watch us perform? When are we going to have arenas in Lagos where we can bring people from all around the world? You know, it [structure] will make everything just easier.”
Since breaking into the limelight, Fireboy has established himself as a popular name in the music industry.
He has also received several awards and recognitions for his craft.
In 2021, he won the African Fan’s Favourite category at the All Africa Music Awards.
He also won Best Afrobeat Single for his hit track ‘Peru’ at the 2022 Headies.
In September 2022, the ‘Playboy’ singer said he and Rema are the “leading artistes” of their generation.
“Myself and Rema are like the two leading artists of our generation, without a doubt,” he had said.
