The launch of the fashion collection was held on Friday in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Kuku said the collection was inspired by the 2023 ban on non-reusable plastics and the beauty of marine ecosystems.

She said she aims to promote sustainability and ocean conservation with the collection.

“What inspired this collection was the ban of some non-reusable plastics in Lagos in 2023,” she said.

“That inspired me to research what marine life used to look like, what it is right now and what it can be in the future if we choose to live a more sustainable life.

“So the ‘Ocean’ collection displays what the marine life used to look like and where it could be. It is a beautiful, rich, marine-inspired collection.”

Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s first lady, who was represented by Kwara’s first lady, praised Kuku for advocating for marine life.

“The collection unveiled today highlights the beauty of Nigeria’s marine ecosystem and the need for its conservation,” she said.

“The Banke Kuku brand aims to use this collection to raise much-needed awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability especially in protecting marine life.

“‘Ocean’ delves deeper into the theme of nature with marine-inspired prints featuring coral reefs, shrimps and seashell designs focusing on the fragile beauty of the marine and the pressing need to preserve our ocean.

“It is in this regard I commend and congratulate Banke Kuku for choosing to champion the advocacy for sustainable fashion in Nigeria through this laudable initiative.

“As this will encourage designers, consumers and industry stakeholders to enhance sustainable practices become a norm rather than the exception.”

The launch was supported by leading brands including Mikano Motors, MAC Cosmetics, Polo Avenue, and Meeyas Jewels.

It was attended by several fashion enthusiasts and celebrities including Akin Faminu, Erica, and Mimi Onalaja.
