The rise in revenue and quality of films in Nollywood continued into 2024. Cinemas across the country benefited from the spate of good movies. Streaming platforms also commissioned a handful of epic blockbusters that held audiences spellbound.
‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ further cemented Funke Akindele’s reputation as the queen of the Nigerian box office. The movie is the highest-grossing Nigerian film for the year, with over N511 million made within two weeks of premiere. Akindele added that the film made over $100,000 in its opening weekend abroad.
‘Farmer’s Brides’ follows a young bride who marries an old farmer with her mother’s arrangement. The movie has been described as one of the best Nollywood productions of the year. It had a lengthy run at the cinema in the middle of the year.
Also, Daniel Oriahi’s ‘The Weekend’ shun at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) where it won the ‘Best Film Award’ for Nigeria and Africa.
