‘Essence‘, the hit track by Wizkid, Tems, and Justin Bieber, has reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard US Afrobeats chart.
The development comes a few days after the song won the ‘Best Collaboration’ category at the 2022 edition of BET awards.
‘Essence’ leapfrogged ‘Free Mind’, the song by Tems, which previously occupied the first position on the chart.
In the latest edition of the chart, CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ held the third spot while ‘Peru’ by Fireboy and Ed Sheeran ranked fourth.
Burna Boy’s ‘Last Last’, Tems’ ‘Higher’, and Asake’s ‘Peace Be Unto You’ ranked fifth, sixth, and seventh respectively on the chart.
‘Buga’, the collaborative song by Kizz Daniel and Tekno, ranked eighth on the list while ‘Finesse’ by Pheelz and BNXN as well as ‘Attention’ by Omah Lay and Bieber completed the top 10.
Since its release, ‘Essence’, a track off ‘Made in Lagos’, Wizkid’s 2020 album, has continued to break records in the global music landscape.
In July last year, the project became the first Nigerian song to crack the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the third from Africa.
It would later record another leap, climbing by 23 spots on the Hot 100 to hit 59th place.
The hit song has also snagged numerous awards. In February, the project won the outstanding music video category at the 2022 edition of the NAACP Image Awards.
