The palace of Elegushi of Ikateland has denied rumours that Sekinat Ajoke, the senior wife of Saheed Elegushi, is sick.
Rumours earlier swirled on social media that the monarch’s wife had been ill and in a coma for some time.
But in a statement released on Monday by Temitope Oyefeso, the media aide to the monarch, the palace said the rumours only exist in the “wicked imagination of the authors”.
The statement added that Sekinat is “hale and hearty” and discharging her royal duties in the palace.
“The attention of the media office of HRM Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi has been drawn to the false news circulating about Olori Sekinat Aramide Elegushi, senior wife of his royal majesty,” the statement reads.
“Contrary to these reports, which only exist in the wicked imagination of the authors, Olori Sekinat Elegushi is hale and hearty; she is currently at the palace, discharging her royal responsibilities.”
The palace also threatened to take legal action against people circulating the rumours.
“The palace takes serious exception to any unfounded and malicious news regarding the royal family and will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law on anyone found culpable,” the statement added.
Elegushi and Sekinat tied the knot in 2003. The union is blessed with three children — all female.
The monarch took a second wife named Hadiza Yakasai in 2019 and celebrated their first wedding anniversary in May 2020.
In February, Sekinat said she is not bothered by her husband’s love for women.
