Ajibade Olubunmi, acting director, information and corporate affairs, confirmed the news of the incident via a statement saying Segun was killed by two gunmen in a saloon where he worked as a hair stylist.

According to the statement, Augustine Ajayi, chief security officer of EKSU, said the victim was shot at close range several times.

According to PUNCH, a student said an ambush was laid for the deceased outside the school by two suspected men suspected to be cultists.

“We began to hear the gunshots and pandemonium followed. What we learnt was that the victim’s attackers laid an ambush for him. His assailants caught up with him and shot him after which they used machete to inflict cuts on his head. We are now living in fear because there may be a reprisal,” the student said.

Alberto Adeyemi, police public relations officer in Ekiti, said his team barely made it in time to save the student.

He said: “Our men got wind of the clash but by the time they got there, they had hacked him to death with machete.”

Adeyemi said an investigation has been launched into the killing.

Samuel Oye-Bandele, vice chancellor of the school, has begged the students for calm following the incident.
