The Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) says the assault case against Sir Jarus, entrepreneur and internet influencer, was struck out after his wife denied being a victim.
On Thursday, Sir Jarus was charged with two counts of domestic violence at the Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos.
The first offence borders on “assault against his wife” while the second is for “conduct likely to cause a breach of peace”.
The DSVA had filed the case after Jarus confessed to domestic violence in a now-deleted post on the microblogging site X.
In his ruling, Lateef Owolabi, the court magistrate, struck out the charges on the condition that the defendant put down his X account for one month and attend counselling sessions at the DSVA which must then provide a report to the court.
The DSVA, in a statement on Friday, says the court struck out the case after the wife Oyewale Ayoola denied being a victim of assault.
The agency said Ayoola asked the magistrate court to withdraw the domestic violence case against her husband.
It said Sir Jarus’ case was adjourned till September 30 when the court will sit to ascertain the defendant’s compliance with the report.
Reacting to the outcome of the case, Jarus said: “In my 17 years of active participation on social media, I have always used the platforms as a force for good, devoting a generous amount of my internet time to advising and supporting the ambitions of younger ones,
“[I am] Confident that an isolated case of marital challenge will not bring down such a brand.
“This use of social media to mass-mentor and share life-transforming information with younger folks will not stop when I return.”
