Victony, the Nigerian singer, has come through with ‘Stubborn’, his highly anticipated single featuring Asake.
The 23-year-old announced the release of the track across streaming platforms on Friday.
The somber yet musing track serves as the first single from Victony’s highly anticipated 2024 album, also titled ‘Stubborn’.
The song is a seamless culmination of the rich sounds of Afro-fusion that both Victony and Asake are known for.
The two singers go back and forth on the song, trading ballads and showcasing their lyrical excellence.
The accompanying music video captures scenes of Victony and Asake performing the song in a retrospective and captivating look at childhood and family.
“Solo solo solo/ You know I’ve been riding solo/ Way before my story get promo/ Now them dey call me idolo/ Idolo dolo dolo/ Make nobody call me idolo again/ No idolo wey fit perfect/ When I dey wear my dunlop/ When I dey wear my dunlop/When I no getti kobo,” they sing.
In a statement about the collaboration, Victony said: “This single is more than just music; it’s an anthem that speaks to the resilience and the power of doggedness”.
“Working with Asake on ‘Stubborn’ was an exhilarating experience. Our shared passion for music and refusal to give up, despite challenges, is what truly shines through in this track.”
Born Anthony Victor, Victony rose to fame a few years ago after collaborating with Mayorkun for ‘Holy Father’.
He is signed to Mainland Block Party, a record label owned by Tobi Mohammed.
Asake, on the other hand, gained prominence in 2020 after he put out ‘Lady’, his hit song.
He joined YBNL, the record label owned by Olamide, in February 2022.
