Timi Dakolo, the Nigerian singer, has put out a new single titled ‘Obim’, an Igbo word that translates to ‘My Heart’.
The song features Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, TV host; Noble Igwe, media personality; Charles Okpaleke, film producer.
It also enlists movie stars including Alexx Ekubo, Chinedu Ikedieze, and Stan Nze.
The love song, accompanied by colourful visuals, spotlights the traditional wedding system among Igbo people.
It also sees Dakolo eulogise his lover, publicly profess his affection for her ahead of marriage, and make lofty promises.
In June 2020, Dakolo spoke to TheCable Lifestyle about the choice of themes for both his singles and albums.
“I don’t see myself as any kind of musician. I don’t box myself. I do the music as it comes and as I feel it,” he said.
“It was never at any point in my mind that I would be a gospel musician. This is because you don’t force creativity. It comes when it comes. That’s why I don’t engage a lot of producers.
“I go to people that can interpret the music the way I hear it. Sometimes I could feel like, ‘Oh, let’s spread love’.
“Other times, dancing to a married song is more like it. That’s what I do and it’s not to say I can’t create a gospel album. I simply avoid putting myself in a box.”
