Akachukwu ‘MMZY’ Uche, a Nigerian singer, has come through with ‘Animal’, a video-assisted collaborative single featuring Seun Kuti, an indigenous musician, who doubles as the son to Fela, a late Afrobeat legend.
The single, which was released on Friday alongside its visuals, follows after MMZY’s solo track titled ‘Wilding’.
‘Animal’ is a political satire on Nigeria that fuses MMZY’s lyrical prowess and tunes from Seun with dance moves.
Its video opens with a scene where political figures are seen hurriedly loading bags of cash into the trunk of a car.
Speaking of his music style in a chat with TheCable Lifestyle, MMZY had said: “I’m a versatile artiste. Sometimes you’ll hear me sing in French and other times in English. I do Afro and dancehall. I’m not this one-direction artiste.
“I can switch if I realize a genre is making fans happy; what they want to hear. I sing with the direction of the spirit.
On collaborations, he had also said: “It’s going to be both home and away. I’m going to be working with many names I can’t mention at the moment. Only my management can say when I’m allowed to make that info public.
“I’ll love to work with top global artistes as well: Drake, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Burna Boy. I hope to have a session with Burna one of these days. I’ll also love to work with Simi. These people are, no doubt, incredibly talented.”
Other MMZY’s hit songs include ‘Miracle Lover‘ and ‘Social Distance‘, both of which are accompanied by visuals.
