Olamilekan ‘Laycon’ Agbeleshe, the Big Brother Naija season five winner, has come through with ‘I Am Laycon’, his sophomore album.
The 27-year-old rapper took to social media in the early hours of Friday to announce the release of the body of work.
The hip hop project includes tracks like ‘Filthy Intro’, ‘B.B.W’, ‘Monrovia Hf-531’, ‘Selfish’, ‘Drunk in Love’, ‘Underrate’, ‘Ride’, ‘Angry Birds’, ‘Love and Light’, and ‘Dues’.
“Operating at the intersection of his personal life and involvement in reality shows, Laycon’s sophomore album I Am Laycon reflects his learnings, mood and outlook. Relaying an array of experiences through expressive lyricism, the project soundtracks a rising star’s journey,” read the editor’s note.
While “Underrate” is a peppy Afrobeats jam celebrating progress, Laycon’s versatility shines through on the airy, confessional “Monrovia Hf-531” and the trap-leaning “Love and Light”.”
The 10-track project comes on the heels of the success recorded by ‘Shall We Begin’, his debut album, released in 2020 shortly after his BBNaija stint.
Since winning the reality show last year, the ‘Fierce’ crooner has continued to pull the weight of fame in the country’s entertainment industry with significant projects as well as endorsement deals.
On July 2, he delivered a soulful performance of ‘All Over Me’, his hit song, for the Grammy Recording Academy.
At the time, the Academy had commended the rising popularity of Afrobeats as a music genre and how artistes like Laycon are changing the narrative.
