Bella Shmurda, the Nigerian singer, has delivered a new single titled ‘Verily’.
The 29-year-old songwriter announced the song’s release via an Instagram post on Friday.
In ‘Verily’, Shmurda tells a heartfelt story of love, longing, and emotional turmoil.
The song’s narrative revolves around a woman who has left an indelible mark on his heart and mind.
Shmurda confesses that he is struggling to focus on reality, as memories of their time together continue to haunt him.
He describes how the woman has turned him into a “sinner”, implying that his feelings for her have led him down a path of emotional chaos and self-destruction.
Shmurda admits to relying on vices like marijuana to cope with the pain, even humorously suggesting that he might need rehab.
Throughout the song, Shmurda pleads with the woman to “finish her mission”, asking her to either fully commit to him or let him go before he loses his sanity.
The song’s emotional intensity is palpable, with Shmurda’s vocals conveying the depth of his feelings.
“Verily, oh girl I say to thee / I’m tryna focus on reality / But you stuck inside my memory / Ecstasy is the thing I feel / When I think about the memories / Finna crucify me, calvary,” Shmurda sings.
The singer, born Akinyibi Ahmed, began his music career in 2019 with the release of his hit single ‘Vision 2020’.
He gained widespread recognition in 2020 with the release of ‘Cash App’, a single that featured Zlatan Ibile and Lincoln.
The song’s success earned Shmurda a nomination in the “Next Rated” category at the 14th edition of The Headies.
In March 2024, the singer revealed that he stopped smoking weed four years ago because it made him anxious and “scared of the future”.
