Dotun Kayode, Nigerian OAP, says fans are not investing in artistes as much as they should be doing.
The Cool FM media personality spoke at the listening party of ‘4Play’, Olakira’s extended play (EP), on Friday.
Dotun said the Nigerian music industry will go bankrupt if listeners refuse to stream or buy musical projects.
He cited the comment made by Burna Boy, Afrofusion star, who recently revealed that he doesn’t make money in Nigeria as a singer.
Burna Boy had said: “I’m from here and I live here because I love my home and my people.
“E no pass like that. I don’t make money from Nigeria. Na only cruise dey here. Nigerians don’t buy music.”
Commenting on the matter, Dotun said: “It is essential that you stream and buy music, that’s the only way to keep musicians in the business.
“The reason Olakira made his cut in music was that people outside heard his songs and supported the kid. You guys saw the vibe jumped on it.
“We in the industry have access to music yet we still buy music. That’s what it takes. Support Nigerian music.
“You guys aren’t supporting Nigeria music the way you should but it’s time to buy their music now.”
